Podcast #20 - Yoga and Activism

What does Yoga have to do with activism? (And isn't that a naughty word?) The Bhagavad Gita reminds us that we must act in the world, and that non-action is a form of action. Julia Butterfly Hill, upon reflecting on whether she should climb into a redwood tree (an action which saved a large chuck of forest in northern California), remembers having the realization that not taking action was the same as complicity with the logging corporations. When we are called to action, we must act.

Activism doesn't have to mean picketing, protesting, or even sitting in a tree. Each of us has their own causes and further their own talents, experiences, and skills. So for each of us, active engagement with the world can look very different. We use the tools and experiences available.
